Telltale Signs You Require Plumbing Services

Posted on: 24 May 2016

Although plumbing is one of the most important systems of the home, homeowners tend to ignore plumbing issues until they become a serious problem. One of the main reasons for this is that they want to avoid the costs of plumbing repairs, as long as their plumbing system is still functional. However, neglecting to attend to these problems as they crop up could lead to irreparable water damage in your home. You may also find that your plumber will need to replace your entire plumbing system in the event the problem leads to a catastrophe such as burst pipes. Here are some of the telltale signs that you require plumbing services.

Loud clunking sounds when turning off taps

If you start to hear loud clunking noises whenever you turn off taps in your home, then your plumbing is probably suffering from water hammer. These loud noises happen when the water rushing through the pipes comes to a sudden stop due to the valve closing faster than normal. Ideally, the valves in your plumbing are supposed to shut off slowly so as to prevent these thudding noises.

A common misconception that some homeowners have is that the noise is merely an irritant and will not cause damage to the plumbing system. The truth of the matter, though, is that constant water hammer may lead to the joints and connections in your plumbing acquiring serious damage that could compromise the integrity of the entire system. When you notice these sounds, it is best to call on a plumber who can check if some of the gaskets in your plumbing system need replacement.

Whooshing noises from your plumbing system

If you are not using any water in your home, your plumbing system is supposed to be inaudible. In the event that you keep hearing whooshing noises and cannot pinpoint the cause, chances are there is water running within your pipes, and this water does not have an outlet. The first thing to do is to check your toilets and sinks for signs of leaking.

If these seem to be working in proper order, then it would be prudent to enlist the services of a plumber. A plumber will be able to diagnose the cause using specialised cameras designed to snake through the various pipes of your plumbing system. Not only will this detect the cause, but also the sooner it is remedied, the lesser the risk of permanent damage to your pipes.
